2010 PRE Evaluation and Assessment Tour: 6th - 20th November 2010

ACPRE Australia is delighted to be able to bring the first PRE event to Australia in 5 years. This is a fantastic opportunity to have an internationally recognised judge, with more than 35 years experience in judging the PRE, evaluate your horses' conformation and movement.

The judge will use the same criteria used on horses overseas, which means that you will know just how well your horses compare to their European and American counterparts!

Entries close on the 30th of September 2010 to allow us to finalise the itinerary, so please register your interest with the office as soon as possible.

Assessment Dates

The assessment tour will be held between the 6th and 20th November, 2010. The tour schedule will be published in early October.

Assessment Locations

The assessment tour will visit each state that we receive entries from. We are requesting that all entries be in by 30th September to allow us to fix the itinerary. We may be able to accept entries after this date, but it is likely that we will not be able to accomodate location requests.

Depending on numbers, we plan to visit 2-3 locations per state, and will do our best to select locations that are a good compromise for all attending.

If you have several horses that you would like to have assessed, or have a broodmare that you cannot move, please let us know and we will do our best to accomodate you with an 'on farm' assessment.

However, please note that we do have a 'minimum standard' for the facilities available - this is to ensure the safety of the horses and handlers, but also ensures an 'even playing field' - we want all horses to be presented on a good surface so that you can show them off at their best.

About the Judge

Col. Javier Velazquez has confirmed that Col. Alberto Zapatero has been appointed to conduct the 2010 Revision in Australia on behalf of the P.R.E.Mundial. Col. Zapatero has an amazing depth of knowledge in evaluating and judging the PRE, with more than 35 years of experience judging on behalf of the Cria Caballar (the organisation that administered the Spanish Stud Book for almost a century) and on behalf of the Foundation for the Pure Spanish Horse. He is also an official Breed Accreditor for PRE Mundial.

How do I enter?

Please contact the office for more information.

What sections can I enter?

The horses will be assessed according to their age. Youngstock (sections 1 - 4) are only presented at the walk and trot, and older horses are presented at the walk, trot and canter. This year, we will not be holding functionality (ridden) competitions.

What horses are eligible?

To be eligible to be assessed, horses must be either:

  • PREs registered in the Spanish Stud Book in Spain, OR
  • PREs registered with PRE Mundial

Please note that horses with registrations pending may also be assessed.

Please also note that PRE Mundial does not have a 'closed revision'. This means that if your horse was eligible to be entered into the Spanish Stud Book in the past but missed out for some reason (i.e. a previous owner was not interested) it may be eligible for registration with PRE Mundial. It will need to meet all the proofs of parentage etc that were required by the Spanish Stud Book, but you are not locked out by time. Such horses may be registered as PREs, and may receive a Carta, but this will be stamped with Broken Lineage. However, these horses can be assessed, and may participate in any future PRE events run under the auspices of ACPRE Australia or PRE Mundial.

Geldings may be assessed.

Preparing a horse for a PRE Assessment

There is quite an art to preparing and presenting a PRE for assessment. Many of the techniques are designed to highlight your horse's strengths and ameliorate its weaknesses.

Spanish judges are used to seeing well muscled horses in good condition, and if you can, it is suggested that you spend some time preparing your horse for the assessment to ensure that you can present your horse in the best light possible.

Having said that, our judge is aware that we do not have 'professional handlers', which are often used in Europe and the USA. He understands that most of us are just doing the best we can, and will give you plenty of opportunity to present your horse well. So there is no need to stress! If you think your horse can show better movement, you will be encouraged to try again.

Seminars

Col. Zapatero has kindly agreed to conduct seminars on the PRE whilst he is in Australia. We intend to hold at least one seminar in each state, but we would be pleased to hold more, assuming that we can get a minimum number of attendees.

These seminars will be open to anyone with an interest in the PRE. Watch this space for more information!

Awards and Prizes

It is nice to know that your achievements are recognised, and for that reason, ACPRE Australia is organising some really special awards for you to remember this event by.

On the assessment day, we will be awarding Premium and Elite awards for horses and youngsters achieving scores within set ranges.

In addition to these awards, we will be presenting gorgeous bronze plaques to national champions at the end of the assessment tour. These plaques will be awarded in the following categories:

  1. Top stud, to be awarded to the stud achieving the highest score nationally after adding up the total score of all entries.
  2. Movement Champion (Campeón de Major Movimiento)
  3. Champion Stallion (Campeón de la Raza), to be awarded to the stallion most closely meeting the ideal breed prototype (from sections 8, 10 and 12)
  4. Reserve Champion Stallion (Subampeón de la Raza), to be awarded to the stallion most closely meeting the ideal breed prototype (from sections 8, 10 and 12)
  5. Champion Mare (Campeona de la Raza), to be awarded to the mare most closely meeting the ideal breed prototype (from sections 7, 9 and 11)
  6. Reserve Champion Mare (Subcampeona de la Raza), to be awarded to the mare most closely meeting the ideal breed prototype (from sections 7, 9 and 11)
  7. Best Movement (Mejores Movimientos) Awards, to be presented to:
    1. The filly or colt (under 3 years of age at 1st January 2010) which has the highest average score for movement in walk and trot (from sections 1, 2, 3 and 4), and
    2. the stallion or mare (3 years or over at 1st January 2010) which has the highest average score for movement in walk, trot and canter (from sections 5, 6, 7, 9 and 11).

A report on the assessment tour, with photos and details, will be included in the Foundation's quarterly magazine - giving you international exposure!

Program

We are planning on producing a program for this event, which will provide details of the horses being presented. This program will be distributed to all participants and members of ACPRE.

If your horse is for sale, please let us know and we will add a note in the program next to your horse's name.

If you are interested in advertising in this program, please contact the office for more information.
